Compute the SHA-256 digest (64 hexadecimal characters) of text or any file with the Web Crypto API, and compare it against a known checksum.
How to verify a file with SHA-256
- Choose the downloaded file.
- Paste the checksum from the download page into Compare.
- A green tick means the file is intact.
Why verify downloads?
Software publishers list SHA-256 checksums so you can confirm a file was not corrupted or tampered with. If even one bit differs, the hash will not match.
