Add text to any PDF right in your browser: upload the file, pick a page, type what you need, choose a size and colour, then click the page to position the text exactly where it belongs. It is drawn onto the PDF as real, selectable text and you download the finished file — free, no sign-up, nothing uploaded.

What does this tool do?

This free tool adds new text to any PDF — names, dates, notes, labels, corrections — placed exactly where you click. Upload your PDF, choose a page, type your text, pick a size, colour and font, then click the page preview to position it. The text is drawn into the PDF as a real, selectable text layer (not a flat image), and you download the finished file. It is the closest thing to editing a PDF online on this site: you cannot rewrite existing paragraphs, but you can add anything new on top.

Everything happens in your browser using the pdf-lib JavaScript library. Your files are never uploaded, there is no sign-up, and there are no watermarks or page limits.

How do I add text to a PDF?

Six quick steps:

  1. Click “Choose PDF” (or drop the file onto the box) to load your document.
  2. Type the text you want to add, and choose a font size, colour, font (Helvetica or Times) and bold if needed.
  3. Use the Prev/Next buttons to go to the right page.
  4. Click on the page preview where the text should appear — a box shows your text in position.
  5. Click a box to select it, then edit its text or style in the panel above, drag it to move it, or delete it.
  6. Click “Add text & download PDF” to draw all your text into the document and save it.

How does it work?

PDF pages are stored as drawing instructions, and this tool appends new ones: your text becomes additional draw-text operations in the page's content stream, positioned with PDF point coordinates converted from your clicks on the preview. The original content is untouched — your additions sit on top like transparent sticky notes made of real text. Because the text is embedded with a standard PDF font, it stays selectable, searchable and printable in any PDF reader.

Can I edit text that is already in the PDF?

No — and any free browser tool that claims otherwise deserves scepticism. PDF is a fixed-layout format: paragraphs are not stored as editable text flow, so changing existing wording reliably requires desktop software. What this tool does instead is overlay: it adds new text on top of the page. That covers the vast majority of real needs — filling a blank line, adding a date, labelling a diagram, noting a correction — without pretending to be a full PDF editor.

Use cases in Pakistan

Filling in PDF forms that have no editable fields (admission forms, visa checklists); adding dates and reference numbers to invoices and quotations; labelling scanned lecture notes; adding “PAID” stamps or file numbers to office documents; covering a typo with matching text; adding English captions to diagrams. Students, teachers, shopkeepers and office staff reach for it daily — and if you need to stamp repeated text like CONFIDENTIAL across every page instead, the Add Watermark to PDF tool does that in one click.

Limitations

You can only add new text, not edit or delete what is already there. Fonts are limited to Helvetica and Times (the fonts built into every PDF reader), so Urdu, Arabic or Hindi script is not supported — those characters are replaced with “?” on download. Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first. Text does not wrap automatically: keep each box to a single line, or add several boxes for longer passages.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit or delete text that is already in the PDF?

No. This tool adds new text on top of the page; it cannot change or remove existing content. PDF stores pages as fixed drawing instructions rather than editable text flow, so rewriting existing paragraphs reliably needs desktop PDF software.

Will the text I add be selectable and searchable?

Yes. Your text is drawn with a real embedded PDF font (Helvetica or Times), so it behaves like normal PDF text: selectable, searchable, copyable and printable in any reader.

Can I add text to a scanned PDF?

Yes. The text is drawn on top of the page like a stamp, so it works on scanned pages too. It will not become part of the scan image underneath, but it displays and prints correctly in position.

What fonts and colours are available?

Helvetica and Times, in regular or bold, in any colour you pick. These two families are built into every PDF reader, which guarantees the file looks identical everywhere it is opened.

Is there a limit on how much text I can add?

No fixed limit — add as many text boxes on as many pages as you like, free. Very large documents may take longer to process on older phones, so keep the original file saved in case you want to redo it.

Does it work offline?

After the page has loaded, yes. All processing is local JavaScript in your browser, so you can keep adding text with the internet disconnected.
