Enter a target size in kilobytes and the tool finds the highest JPG or WebP quality that fits under it, shrinking the dimensions only if quality alone is not enough. It is built for application forms, ID uploads and portals that reject files above a set size.

How to reduce image size to a specific KB

  1. Type the maximum size the form allows in the Target size box, for example 50.
  2. Choose your photo or signature scan. The tool tests different quality levels until the file fits.
  3. Check the final size and dimensions, then download the image and upload it to your form.

How the target-size search works

The tool runs a binary search over JPG quality, encoding your image up to eight times and keeping the best version that is still under your limit. If even the lowest sensible quality is too large, it reduces the width and height in small steps and tries again. That way you keep as much detail as the limit allows instead of guessing a quality number yourself.

Common size limits

Upload typeTypical limit
Signature scan10–20 KB
Passport-style photo for online forms20–50 KB
Document scan (CNIC, certificate)100–300 KB
Profile picture100–500 KB
Email attachment per image1 MB

Always check the exact rule on the form you are filling in; some also require specific pixel dimensions, which you can set first with the image resizer.

Tips for very small targets

For targets under 30 KB, crop away empty background first with the crop tool, because fewer pixels means more quality per kilobyte. Signatures look sharper if you scan them on plain white paper in good light.

Frequently asked questions

What does KB mean for images?

KB stands for kilobytes. 1 MB is 1,024 KB. Most forms show limits in KB, and this tool uses the same 1 KB = 1,024 bytes definition as Windows and most upload portals.

Why is my result a bit smaller than the target?

The tool keeps the result at or below your limit, so it is usually a few KB under. That avoids rejections from portals that count size slightly differently.

Can I reduce a PNG to a set KB?

Yes. PNG files are converted to JPG or WebP because PNG cannot be tuned to an exact size. Transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose.

Will the photo still be clear?

Usually yes down to about 20 KB for a passport-size photo. Very small targets for very large photos will reduce detail, so resize the photo to the dimensions the form asks for first.
