NS Lookup (Name Servers)

Find out where a domain’s DNS is managed by checking its name servers.

  • Free, no sign-up
  • Queried via secure DNS-over-HTTPS
  • Works on phone and desktop

Look up a domain’s NS records to see its authoritative name servers, which tells you whether DNS is managed at Cloudflare, your hosting company or your registrar.

How to use the ns lookup (name servers)

  1. Enter the domain.
  2. Press Look up.
  3. Make DNS changes at the provider these name servers belong to.

Why this matters

DNS changes only take effect at the provider your name servers point to. If NS records show Cloudflare, editing DNS in your hosting cPanel does nothing. Changing name servers at the registrar can take up to 24–48 hours.

Frequently asked questions

How many name servers should a domain have?

At least two, on separate networks, for redundancy.
