Query public DNS for A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, NS, TXT, SOA, CAA, SRV and PTR records, or all common records at once, using encrypted DNS-over-HTTPS resolvers (Google, with Cloudflare as fallback). Results show TTLs and highlight SPF, DMARC and verification records.
How to use the dns lookup
- Enter a domain such as example.com.
- Choose a record type, or All common records.
- Press Look up and read the records and TTLs.
DNS record types
| Type | Purpose |
|---|---|
| A / AAAA | Points a name to an IPv4 / IPv6 address (your web server) |
| CNAME | Alias of another name (often www → root or a CDN) |
| MX | Mail servers that receive email for the domain |
| NS | Authoritative name servers (where DNS is managed) |
| TXT | SPF, DKIM, DMARC and site verification codes |
| CAA | Which certificate authorities may issue SSL certificates |
DNS changes and propagation
After you change a record, resolvers keep the old answer until its TTL (time to live) expires. A TTL of 3600 means up to an hour. Lower the TTL a day before planned changes, such as a hosting migration, so the switch happens faster.
Frequently asked questions
Why do I see a different IP than my host gave me?
The site may be behind a CDN or proxy such as Cloudflare, or the DNS change has not reached this resolver yet.
Can I check DNS propagation?
This tool queries Google’s and Cloudflare’s resolvers, two of the largest. If they show the new value, most users will too.
