The lookup queries the domain registry’s official RDAP service (the modern replacement for WHOIS) and shows the registrar, registration, update and expiry dates, domain age, name servers, EPP status codes, DNSSEC and abuse contact.
How to do a WHOIS lookup
- Type the domain name, without http:// or www.
- Press Look up.
- Read the registrar, dates and name servers.
Why owner details are hidden
Since the GDPR came into force in 2018, most registrars redact the registrant’s name, email and address. To contact an owner, use the registrar’s contact form or the abuse email shown.
Domain status codes
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| clientTransferProhibited | Transfer lock is on (normal and recommended) |
| redemptionPeriod | Expired and deleted; can still be restored for a fee |
| pendingDelete | Will be released for anyone to register soon |
| serverHold | Suspended by the registry; the site will not resolve |
Frequently asked questions
Does it work for .pk domains?
PKNIC does not offer an RDAP service, so .pk domains may not return data. Most generic domains (.com, .net, .org, .io and new gTLDs) work.
Is a domain with no record available?
Usually, but check with a registrar before relying on it.
