When you need a 200 KB image
200 KB is a common upload cap for multi-page document photos, product images and blog images. For websites it is a good maximum for large content images.
Tips for a sharp result at 200 KB
For website images, also cap the width at about 1600 px and consider WebP, which looks better than JPG at the same size. You can also crop away empty background with the crop tool before compressing.

Frequently asked questions
Will my image be exactly 200 KB?
It will be at or just below 200 KB, usually within a few KB. Staying slightly under prevents portals from rejecting it.
Can I compress a PNG or screenshot?
Yes. It is converted to JPG (or WebP if you choose), with transparent areas filled with the background colour.
Is it safe for ID documents?
Yes. The compression happens in your browser; the file is never sent to a server.
Why does the form still say my file is too large?
Some portals count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes. Set the target a few KB lower, for example 197 KB, and try again.
