Choose Add GST to find the tax and gross price from a net amount, or Remove GST to extract the tax from a GST-inclusive price. The calculator shows the GST amount and splits it equally into CGST and SGST for intra-state sales.
How to calculate GST
- Choose Add GST or Remove GST.
- Enter the amount and the GST rate (or click a rate).
- Read the net amount, GST and total, plus CGST and SGST.
GST formulas
Add GST: GST = amount × rate ÷ 100, total = amount + GST.
Remove GST: net = amount ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100), GST = amount − net.
Example: ₹1,180 including 18% GST contains ₹180 GST on a net price of ₹1,000.
GST rates in India
Since 22 September 2025 most goods and services fall into two main slabs, 5% and 18%, with a 40% rate for luxury and sin goods; some items remain at 0%, 0.25% or 3% (gold). The older 12% and 28% slabs still appear on invoices issued before the change. Within a state the tax is split equally into CGST and SGST; between states it is charged as IGST.
Frequently asked questions
How do I remove 18% GST from a price?
Divide by 1.18. ₹1,180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000 net, so GST is ₹180.
Is GST in Pakistan the same?
Pakistan charges General Sales Tax (GST), mostly at 18%. The maths is identical; use this calculator or the sales tax calculator.
