The New Year arrives at midnight in three different moments here: first in India at 00:00 IST (UTC+5:30), half an hour later in Pakistan at 00:00 PKT (UTC+5), and five hours after that at 00:00 UTC. The live timers show the exact days, hours, minutes and seconds left in each zone, and roll over automatically to the following year.
When does the New Year begin in Pakistan, India and UTC?
The next New Year begins on 1 January 2027, a Friday. In India the clock strikes midnight first at 00:00 IST, which is 18:30 UTC on 31 December 2026. In Pakistan midnight arrives 30 minutes later at 00:00 PKT (19:00 UTC). The world-standard moment — 00:00 UTC — comes five and a half hours after India's midnight.
The tabbed countdown above tracks all three moments live. Pick the tab for your zone, or compare them to see the stagger: India celebrates first, Pakistan next, then London and the rest of the UTC world.
Why does the New Year arrive at different times around the world?
The New Year is a local-midnight event, not a single global instant. Each time zone celebrates when its own clocks hit 00:00 on 1 January. Because Pakistan sits at UTC+5 and India at UTC+5:30, their midnights — and therefore their New Years — fall at different absolute moments.
This is why “Happy New Year” messages ripple across the planet for 24 hours: the first celebrations start in the Pacific islands and the last finish in American Samoa, with Pakistan and India roughly in the middle of the wave.
What is the time difference between PKT, IST and UTC?
PKT (Pakistan Standard Time) is UTC+5 all year — Pakistan does not observe daylight saving. IST (Indian Standard Time) is UTC+5:30 all year — India also has no daylight saving. UTC is the global reference (the same as GMT for everyday purposes).
So: India is always 30 minutes ahead of Pakistan, Pakistan is always 5 hours ahead of UTC, and India is always 5 hours 30 minutes ahead of UTC. These offsets never change, which is why the three countdowns keep a constant gap between them.
How is New Year celebrated in Pakistan and India?
In Pakistan, New Year’s Eve is a low-key affair for most families — late-night dinners, fireworks in the big cities, and special TV programming. 1 January is not a public holiday in Pakistan, though many offices and schools start the year quietly.
In India, celebrations vary by region and community: metro cities host parties and fireworks, while many families also observe traditional new years on other dates (such as Diwali in the Hindu calendar or Baisakhi in Punjab). 1 January is a public holiday in several Indian states. Wherever you are, the countdown above tells you exactly when to raise the toast.

Frequently asked questions
When is New Year 2027?
1 January 2027, a Friday. The countdown above shows the live time remaining until midnight in Pakistan (PKT), India (IST) and UTC — pick your tab.
Do Pakistan and India celebrate New Year at the same moment?
No. India's midnight (00:00 IST) arrives 30 minutes before Pakistan's midnight (00:00 PKT), because IST is UTC+5:30 while PKT is UTC+5. The tabs show both moments live.
What time is UTC midnight in Pakistan?
00:00 UTC is 05:00 PKT — five hours later. So when London celebrates the New Year, it is already 5 a.m. on 1 January in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad.
Do Pakistan or India observe daylight saving time?
No. Both PKT (UTC+5) and IST (UTC+5:30) are fixed year-round, so the gaps between the three countdowns never change.
Does the countdown update itself for the next year?
Yes. The moment a countdown reaches zero it rolls over and starts counting down to the following New Year automatically.
Is this New Year countdown free?
Yes — free, unlimited and no sign-up, like every tool on this site.
