Background

Make scroll-stopping quote images in seconds: choose from twelve designer gradient backgrounds, type your quote and its author, pick a font and size, and download a crisp PNG sized for Instagram posts, stories or widescreen. The typography auto-fits your words beautifully. Everything renders in your browser — no watermark, no sign-up, no uploads.

How do I create a quote image with this tool?

  1. Type your quote — paste it in or write your own; the text area fits a line or a paragraph.
  2. Add the author — a name, or leave it blank for anonymous wisdom.
  3. Pick a background — twelve gradients from calm pastels to bold duotones; tap to preview instantly.
  4. Choose font and size — square for Instagram posts, portrait for stories, widescreen for banners.
  5. Download the PNG — crisp, watermark-free, ready to post.

What makes a quote image get shared?

Three ingredients. Brevity: quotes under 25 words get shared far more than paragraphs — one idea, one image. Contrast: light text on the darker gradients (midnight, forest, plum) stays readable as a thumbnail, which is where the sharing decision happens. Attribution: naming the author — or honestly marking it “Unknown” — builds trust; misattributed quotes are the fastest way to lose credibility with an audience. A small practical tip: quotes with a concrete image in them (“…like a lamp in the dark”) outperform abstract ones because the reader sees something.

Which size should I download?

1080×1080 square is the default for Instagram and Facebook posts — it displays largest in feeds. 1080×1350 portrait suits stories, reels covers and Pinterest, where vertical images get more screen space. 1920×1080 widescreen fits YouTube thumbnails, Twitter/X headers and blog featured images. The tool re-flows your text for each size automatically, so switching is one tap and the typography stays balanced.

Can I use quotes I find online?

Short quotations for commentary, criticism or inspiration are generally fine, but always attribute honestly — and beware the internet’s famous misattributions (if a quote sounds too perfect for its supposed author, verify it before posting). Quotes from living authors and song lyrics can be copyrighted, so for commercial pages, prefer classic public-domain wisdom or — safest of all — your own words. This tool places no restriction on your downloads, but the words remain your responsibility.

What are the limitations?

Backgrounds are twelve fixed gradients — you cannot upload a photo background or design a custom gradient (pair this with the photo tools on this site if you want text over your own pictures). Typography uses your device’s fonts in four styles, auto-sized to fit; there is no manual kerning or per-word styling. Exports are PNG only, single-image — no carousel or multi-slide quote sets.

Frequently asked questions

Is the quote image generator really free?

Yes — unlimited quote images, all backgrounds, no account. Rendering happens on a canvas in your browser, so there is nothing to charge for.

Will my quote image have a watermark?

No. The PNG contains only your quote, the author line and the background — clean enough to post as your own content.

What size are the downloaded images?

Your choice: 1080×1080 (Instagram/Facebook posts), 1080×1350 (stories, Pinterest) or 1920×1080 (YouTube thumbnails, banners). Text re-flows automatically for each.

Can I change the text colour?

Yes — automatic (white or near-black chosen for contrast against your gradient), or pick any custom colour. The automatic option is safest for readability.

How long can my quote be?

The text box accepts long quotes, and the type auto-shrinks to fit — but quotes under about 25 words look dramatically better. If the text gets tiny, shorten the quote.

Do my quotes get uploaded anywhere?

No. The quote is drawn onto a canvas in your browser tab and the PNG is generated locally. Your words never leave your device.
